Are you forsaken?
Text: Psalms 22:1-11
Transition: I intend to show you why Christ suffered so that we don’t have to.
Introduction: The world has so much rejection that we are no longer concerned, sensitive to things like the lady that left the man in her windshield for a couple of days to die. Teens are committing suicide at alarming rates we are no longer shocked. What is the problem with us? Today’s paper stated that Britney Spears admitted drug use. Why aren’t we concerned? We live as if we are forsaken.
Point 1. Who was addressed? Matthew 27:45-54- God The Father, God The Holy Spirit
Point 2. What was the problem? SIN
A cry came out of the darkness, My God, My God. Jesus taught us that spiritual sorrows are the worst. A man may bear great depression of spirit about worldly matters if he feels that he has God to go to. Cast down but not in despair. Jesus didn’t cry out from the physical pain or humiliation but from the fact of being forsaken. He was alone. He cries out to God not against God, it is a faith cry, do as You will.
At that moment the finite soul of man came into contact with infinite justice of God. God was for Him and against Him at the same time. In Jesus we see submission and resolve.
We should dwell on the same thoughts as Jesus did when He faced adversity.
Christ had to be forsaken because it is the consequence of sin. Adam was forsaken, look at the promise from God in Genesis 2:17 and the result in Genesis 3:23,24. There can be no fellowship with sin. Christ had to be forsaken so that He suffered from sin and for sin.
Jesus was forsaken so that we wouldn’t be forsaken. Look at 2 Corinthians 4;8…
Point 3. What was the solution? DEATH
John 19:30 It is Finished.
Look at Hebrews 12:2
Look at Matthews 19:27,29, what was Peter asking for and what did Jesus promise
Look at what we have:
Romans 5:1-3
Ephesians 2:8-10; 3:10-12
Rev 21; Rev 22
