Its In Our Nature
Text: Psalms 73; Romans 7:1-11 or all
Transition: I intend to show you why Jesus was and still is the standard. You see we want more that we need and we need more that we want
Definition: We have corrupted words just like the world., we have taken the want meaning a desire and change ti to need (must have) and have become wanton which means grabbing unjustifiably or maliciously and we have accepted that today.
Introduction: Two men sat looking through prison bars. One saw MUD and one saw STARS. We have patterned ourselves after the jellyfish in the Bay of Naples. It loves to eat a certain snail but can not digest it; the snail attaches itself to the jellyfish and slowly begins to eat the jellyfish from the inside until it is full grown and the jellyfish is totally consumed
Message:
Point A: Romans 7. We handle sin like the jellyfish, it is attractive; we know it will kill us but… Verse 11, For sin, taking occasion by te commandment, deceived me and by it slew me. I don't do what I know that I need to. I do what I know that I shouldn't I am wanting more than I need.. Thankfully, God is above us, look at how He responds to our sin in Jeremiah 15:1--6
Point B: Luke 12:16-23: Thou soul shall be required of thee
Point C: Why do we see mud? Why do We act like the jellyfish
We don't want to be convicted, but we need to be
We don't want to be responsible and accountable but we need to be
We love to feast on what is attractive to us and don't consider the consequences of its reign over us. We can't quit. Snails in our life:\
Gluttony - doing anything to excess
Greed - coveteousness - Like lust, this is wanting more and more to satisfy an appetite that can not be satisfied with the food that it is getting. NOT THE LOVE OF POSSESSIONS BUT THE LOVE OF POSSESSING.
Now Pride- the father of all..
Think about the jellyfish, they can sting you in the water, sometimes you can not see them until after the sting and yet they can consume what consumes them. Are we like that? You betcha, we are sheep, that is why we need a shepherd and The Shepherd.
2 Cor 5:14-18- Jesus became our JELLYFISH. He took on the snails that would kill us so that we would become new creatures in HIM, old appetites are to begin disappearing and we are to feed on His Word. By His choosing us, he gave us the promise of a life that is SNAIL PROOF so that we can live blameless and holy in His Righteousness. We are rich in His Blessings, we don’t have to eat snails because He died so that we can have the best.
WE NEED THE WORD OF GOD RESIDING IN OUR SOUL EVERY DAY, A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM AS THE CENTER OF OUR LIVES
